How Much Does Beauty Professional Insurance Cost?

Beauty professional insurance costs as low as $9.99 per month or $96 for a year of coverage when you get insured through Beauty & Bodywork Insurance (BBI). The exact price you pay can vary depending on your specific needs and who you buy your insurance through.

Unlike other companies, BBI doesn’t hide policy pricing or make you pay for benefits you may never use. We also give you your own professional liability policy and not a shared or group policy. That way you are in control over your own rates and claims at all times (and if someone else makes a mistake, your rates won’t go up).

BBI also covers more than 250 different modalities with just one simple insurance plan, so you don’t have to pay for more than one policy. We also cover you if you work in a salon, a studio, a spa, out of your home, clients’ homes, on-site, or on-the-go without charging you a location fee.

While our base plan starts at $9.99/month or $96/year, we do offer additional coverages that you can add to your plan for a small annual price. These coverages are completely optional and can be added on by you during the online check-out process.

This coverage protects your tools, supplies, and equipment you use to perform your day-to-day tasks, such as brushes, hair dryers, tables, payment systems, wax warmers, towels, and more. If they are damaged or stolen by a third party, this may help you pay to repair or replace insured items.

This coverage helps you pay for damages from cyber attacks, such as phishing, data breach, malware, hacking, and ransom payments. If someone steals private customer information, business information, or business funds, this policy may help you notify customers and refund stolen funds.

This coverage allows you to add one additional insured on to your policy. An additional insured is a salon, an employer, a property owner, an event, a studio, or a business. It’s not for friends, employees, coworkers, or other businesses you may own.

This coverage allows you to add an unlimited number of additional insureds to your policy. This is great if you work in more than one location, or work several events during the year. If someone tries to sue you and the business you work for, you are both covered by your policy.

It’s important to note this type of policy is designed for individual beauty professionals who need to carry their own liability insurance. If you are a salon or spa owner looking for beauty business insurance costs, check out our Salon & Spa insurance.

Holy Shiatsu! 😅 Don’t Let A Claim Stop You

Would you rather pay $9.99/month for insurance, or $9,000 for a claim?

From wax burns to e-file cuts and massage bruising to hair cuts gone wrong, accidents can happen in any salon or spa. When something goes wrong, beauty insurance can help you cover the costs.

A single claim can range anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars in expenses. It’s stressful trying to figure out a way to pay for claims, especially when it’s coming out of your own pocket.

Beauty liability insurance helps you in those moments where you are liable for a mistake. It can even help in cases where you aren’t liable, but a client is trying to sue and say you are. Just the cost to defend yourself against a lawsuit threat isn’t cheap!

Insurance is a small price to pay for peace of mind when the alternative is a costly claim.

4 Factors That Impact Beauty Liability Insurance Costs

1. Services Offered

The types of services you provide can affect the cost of insurance. Some treatments and services, like cupping or acupuncture, require additional coverage for a small fee.

2. Additional Insureds

Many salons and spas that require you to carry insurance may ask to be added on your policy as an additional insured. This can be an added cost and increase your premiums.

3. Optional Coverages

Some policies offer optional coverages to cover things like your tools and supplies. You can choose to add these on to your policy for an additional price.

4. Claims History

Sometimes your claims history can impact your insurance costs. If you have a history of filing several costly claims, you may be charged more for your premiums.

Some insurance companies will raise your premiums based on location, the number of technicians you employ, or the yearly revenue of your business.

BBI does not raise your premium for these reasons, making our policy more affordable for salon and spa owners.

Is Insurance Required For Beauty Professionals?

We get it, you don’t want to have to pay for something that you’re unsure if you need (although we think everyone needs insurance, but that’s because we’re an insurance company). The reality is, we live in a very sue-happy society. It’s likely most places you work are going to want you to have your own insurance policy. This is because those businesses don’t want the fall of a claim falling on their shoulders. As a result, you’ll find you might have a hard time landing a good beauty or bodywork job without good insurance.

Some businesses may still encourage you to get a policy, even if it’s not mandatory, just so you can work with peace of mind. You don’t want to get served with a lawsuit, or stuck with a pricey medical bill, because of an accident you never intended to cause. Beauty liability insurance provides you with a financial safety net that can save you thousands in the long run.

Provides Financial Protection:
In the event of injuries, property damage, or lawsuits, insurance can help you cover the cost of a claim. It prevents unexpected expenses from forcing you out of business or crippling your finances.

Creates Client Confidence:
Having insurance coverage shows your commitment to your clients’ well-being, giving them peace of mind. It shows that you take their safety seriously and helps build their trust and loyalty with you.

Satisfies Salon Requirements:
Depending on where you work, having professional liability insurance may be a requirement. By obtaining the necessary coverage, you ensure that you are operating within the bounds of your contract.

Optional Add-ons & Endorsements

– Tools & Supplies Coverage (Inland Marine) ($16)

– Cyber Liability Coverage ($70)

– 1 Additional Insured ($15)

– Unlimited Additional Insureds ($30)

Some services and use of certain tools are not covered by our policy, or require an endorsement to qualify. You can read a full list of our exclusions here.

Can I Lower Beauty Insurance Premiums?

Most beauty insurance costs start at one flat rate and offer the minimum amount of coverage and limits that you need. This means this is the lowest price you can pay for this plan. Adding on optional coverage, raising your limits, or increasing the number of stations covered can raise your cost.

Because you are working with an individual’s body, the risk of a costly mistake is much higher. Burns, rashes, or injuries can lead to expensive medical bills or pricey lawsuits, so you need to make sure your insurance policy will be able to cover you for something like this. This is why base plans with one flat rate exist (you don’t want to be paying for a cheap policy that doesn’t give you good coverage).

Sometimes you’ll see insurance companies offer the same type of insurance, but for different prices. This tends to happen because there are different insurance carriers who have different base policy pricing. Depending on the carrier, the policy could cost more or less. Some companies also may include benefits like a membership or subscription. Ultimately you can decide what benefits, coverages, and limits are worth the cost.

3 Tips For Filing Down Beauty Insurance Costs 💅

At BBI, we want to help you get the most value out of your insurance without breaking the bank. Consider these three tips to potentially help lower your total beauty business insurance costs.

1. Maintain a Safe Workspace
Regularly assess your workspace for safety hazards and take necessary measures to address them. A clean, well-maintained space can reduce the risk of accidents and keep costly claims at bay.

2. Keep Licenses Up-to-Date
It’s important to keep any licenses, certifications, or trainings up to date. You always want to be sure you are keeping up with the latest industry trends, but adhering to them in the safest way possible.

3. Opt For An Annual Plan
When you pay upfront for an annual plan, you only have to pay for taxes and fees once a year rather than once a month. These little costs can add up and make a monthly policy more expensive.
