Inland Marine Coverage (Tools & Supplies)

What Is Inland Marine Coverage?

Also known as tools and supplies coverage, inland marine insurance is business property coverage for your movable gear and supplies. When the things you can’t do business without get stolen or damaged, this coverage is designed to kick in to repair or replace them.

Why Equipment Insurance Matters for Beauty and Bodywork Professionals

You spend your hard-earned dollars on building your makeup kit or investing in a high-quality massage table. This coverage ensures you can stay in business with minimal interruption if you lose your stuff.

  • Your business personal property is your paycheck — and worth protecting
  • If you travel for work, this insurance covers your business gear while you’re on the go
  • Spas, salons, events, and venues typically do not cover your equipment, so this coverage fills that gap
  • The faster you can replace your property, the more easily you can keep bookings on your calendar

Inland marine insurance is designed to cover:

  • Theft of covered gear: Shears, clippers, massage tables, wax pots, ring lights, carts, cases, and business tech, like your point-of-service (POS) system
  • Accidental damage: Drops, spills, or transit bumps to covered items
  • On-the-go protection: Studios, client sites, markets, classes, and in transit
  • Rented or borrowed items: Where included by policy wording or when scheduled (specifically listed)

Coverage depends on your policy. Check your declarations page for limits, any per-item sublimits, and the deductible.

This coverage is not for:

  • Wear and tear or defects: Normal use, cosmetic scratches, or manufacturer issues
  • Unexplained disappearance: Missing items with no evidence of theft (including theft from vehicles without forced entry)
  • Non-business personal property: Things you don’t use for business
  • Data or cyber losses and cash: These require separate coverages, such as cyber liability insurance

Inland marine insurance covers your business property (first-party coverage). General and professional liability insurance are both meant to cover harm caused to others (third parties).
