Endorsement

What Is an Endorsement on an Insurance Policy?

An insurance endorsement is a change to your insurance policy. It adds, removes, or edits something in your coverage.

Think of endorsements as a way to customize your policy so it fits your precise business needs.

Why It Matters for Beauty and Bodywork Professionals

Insurance policy endorsements help you get the specific coverage you need, so you can meet insurance requirements and provide services confidently.

  • Salons, spas, and event organizers often require specific language, like being listed as an additional insured (a type of endorsement)
  • Specialized services, like cupping or microcurrent facials, often require an endorsement for your policy to cover them
  • Your movable business items can be protected with an optional add-on called Tools & Supplies Coverage

In short, endorsements make your insurance policy work for you — according to your unique risks.

There are three sections on your insurance policy to view your endorsements:

  • Declarations page: Shows a list of endorsements attached to your policy]
  • Certificate of insurance (COI): May reflect the result of an endorsement (like an additional insured added to your policy)
  • Endorsement document: The actual form detailing the changes made to your policy and its effective date

Endorsements are common in business insurance. Here are some you might need:

  • Additional insured: Extends coverage to a qualified third party for your business operations at their location
  • Optional coverages: Adds a specific coverage, like cyber liability insurance, to your policy
  • Modality endorsement: Adds coverage for a specialized service that is typically excluded from your policy

An endorsement changes your policy, while a certificate of insurance serves as proof of coverage. So, you might see an “edit” to your coverage on your policy “snapshot” (your COI), which you can send to a landlord if they need to verify it.
