Add-On

What Is Add-On Insurance?

In insurance, an add-on refers to additional coverage or extra features added to a standard insurance policy. It’s a simpler way to refer to “endorsements,” which enhance protection by covering risks not included in the base policy.

What Do Add-Ons Mean for Beauty and Bodywork Professionals?

Just like you tailor service to your clients, insurance add-ons allow you to create your ideal policy by opting in to bonus coverages.

Benefits of Add-On Insurance

  • Extends coverage to specialized services or unique risks
  • Helps you meet studio, landlord, or event insurance requirements
  • Updates your certificate of insurance (COI) to show updates to your policy

For example, if you select a Tools & Supplies Coverage add-on, your policy will be updated to cover your business personal property in case of theft or damage. This change will be reflected on your COI.

Optional add-ons are designed to make a specific change to your coverage. Here’s what they don’t do:

  • Guarantee a claim will be paid (it must still meet the policy and add-on terms)
  • Erase exclusions unless the add-on (endorsement) specifically changes them
  • Automatically cover every new service you start offering (always verify your exact coverage)

Insurance endorsements, add-ons, and riders all mean the same thing: a written change to your policy. Think of them as edits to your coverage, usually adding more protection for a specific exposure.

These are some common insurance add-ons your industry peers opt for.

Add-On Why You Might Need It

Adds another business entity (like a salon owner) to your policy so they’re covered if they’re named in a claim related to your services

Cupping

Extends your coverage to include dry cupping treatments at your business

Helps you recover from cybersecurity-related claims on your business (like a data breach on your clients’ information)

Adds coverage for your fitness instruction (such as yoga, personal training, or Pilates)

Microcurrent

Covers the use of handheld microcurrent devices during facial treatments

Salon & Spa Owner

Protects your salon or spa with blanket coverage for each station and every technician working at your business

Helps defend you if you’re wrongly accused of sexual misconduct (currently unavailable for male massage therapists)

Pays to repair or replace business tools and supplies if damaged or stolen, so you can resume work quickly

Add-ons usually add a small cost to your premium. For example, adding cupping coverage to your Beauty & Bodywork Insurance (BBI) policy costs $2.92/month (added to your base policy premium).
