Exclusion

What Are Exclusions in Insurance?

An insurance exclusion is a specific thing your policy does not cover. They help define the scope of your coverage so you know exactly what isn’t included.

Why It Matters for Beauty and Bodywork Professionals

Knowing the insurance exclusions helps you avoid offering services your policy won’t cover. It also allows you to decide whether to request an endorsement or add extra coverage so your policy and business align.

Every policy is different, but these categories are often excluded for beauty and bodywork:

  • Intentional harm
  • Illegal acts
  • Services outside of your scope or licensure
  • Employment-related matters
  • Cybersecurity claims
  • Prior known issues
  • Pollution or contamination
  • Certain “high-risk” services
  • Property you own or use for business (needs Tools & Supplies Coverage)
  • Contractual liability (responsibilities you accept through contracts)

Your policy can cover some of these exclusions through an endorsement, so be sure to understand your coverage gaps and make any necessary edits.

Pro Tip: Find your exclusions list in the declarations section of your policy.

An insurance exclusion is something your policy doesn’t cover, while an endorsement is a way to change your policy (and sometimes include coverage for an exclusion).
